Innovation through Improvisation
The Second City has been performing sketch comedy in front of audiences for over 50 years, making it the standard by which comedy and improv in America is judged. So much talent has come from the ranks of the company’s many theaters over the years, it reads like a who’s who of contemporary American comedy. Some of their most well-known alumni are John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch, Steve Carrell and Stephen Colbert to name a few. Second City Communications works with corporate groups to create a fun, interactive and unconventional approach to training and entertainment. Working with groups as small as 4 and as large as 18000, they have worked with the employees of over 400 Fortune 1000 companies.
Lisa received a BS in Sociology from Indiana University and spent time working as a marketing training specialist before receiving an MBA and MA in Human Resources/Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
While working for Deloitte & Touche as a senior consultant in the human resources strategy group for government, public and non-profit organizational projects, she began taking classes at The Second City Training Center. Recognizing the similarity between improv and business skills, she continued to study improvisation until leaving consulting to pursue performing full-time in the summer of 2001.
Since that time, she has graduated from The Second City conservatory and comedy writing programs, as well as the iO (formerly ImprovOlympic) and Annoyance Theater training centers. In the past she also coordinated RECESS, The Playground Theater’s outreach program that brings improvisation skills into public school classrooms and children’s organizations on a volunteer basis.
She currently performs at iO, ComedySportz and The Playground Theater, as well as with various independent shows in Chicago. She has previously performed with the long-running production of Sex in the Suburbs and The Baritones at The Noble Fool Theater in downtown Chicago. She also teaches and directs as well as produces shows.
Rebecca is an alumna of the Second City National Touring Company and the Second City ETC stage in Chicago. She has been improvising for 22 years and teaching for 15. For the last 9 she’s been working for Second City Communications in every role available: writer, actor, director and facilitator for nearly 200 Corporate Clients. She worked as a copywriter for the Ad Agency DraftFCB. She has a thriving career outside the corporate world as well. She co-wrote a musical for Second City’s Theatricals division and wrote and performed her one-woman show on the SC ETC stage. As a “legit actress” she has performed with The Steppenwolf Theatre, Remy Bumppo, About Face and other Chicago theaters, has appeared on TV, in Independent movies and has done Voice Overs. Her name is well known throughout the ever-growing improv communities in Chicago, New York and LA. She currently improvises with Virgin Daquiri at Improv Olympic, teaches and improvises at The Annoyance Theatre with In A World and recently improvised a play with Almost Atlanta at Second City’s Skybox. She looks forward to headlining with Switchboard in the upcoming Out Of Bounds improv festival in Austin, TX in September 2011.
Cayne has been writing and performing stand-up comedy for 18 years. For 10 years, Cayne owned, operated and was the emcee of Chicago’s longest running independent stand-up comedy showcase, “The Elevated”. In 2005, Cayne was chosen as “Chicagoan of the Year: in Comedy” by the Chicago Tribune. Cayne has also written and performed sketch comedy for over a decade. He worked for five years with the acclaimed sketch group, “Brick” and toured nationally for over a year with The Second City National Touring Company. Cayne also has been performing and teaching improvisation for just about as long, with stints at improv theaters and theater organizations in town such as: ComedySportz, The Second City, iO (formerly The ImprovOlympic), The Funny Farm, and The Noble Fool Theater Cabaret.
Don’t miss Chicago’s esteemed Second City
as they bring their special brand of comedy to Wyoming. Learn how to “improve through improv! “Monday, February 27, 2012
